Growing up, my parents were all about health food. This tapered off around junior high, but my mom never gave up on organic peanut butter. This recipe makes peanut butter that tastes just like the all natural kind you can buy in the store.
Have you ever wondered what was in the peanut butter that you buy from the store? I love peanut butter on just about anything, including right off a spoon! Unless you buy organic or the really expensive kind there are a far too many preservatives and chemicals in there that aren’t good for you. Making your own peanut butter is easier than it sounds. All you need is three ingredients, and you’ll be surprised with the results. If you are into health food and don’t like all of those chemicals in your body then try this recipe. Say goodbye to store-bought peanut butter for good.
- 2 cups dry roasted unsalted peanuts
- 1 1/2 tbsp peanut oil
- 1/4 tsp salt
- pinch of sugar or honey *optional (if you want it to taste a little more like the store bought kind)
Combine all ingredients in a food processor and blend until it forms a thick smooth paste. Store in air tight container in the refrigerator. It's natural for the oil to separate from the peanut butter over time. Just give it a quick stir before using.
*If you like crunchy peanut butter add a few more peanuts after you have a thick smooth paste - pulse just a few more times.
